The Guild, which can accommodate around 35 members at any time, allows 24/7 access to a complete ceramics studio and the community we create. We share 7 wheels, one electric kiln, two larger gas kilns and a raku kiln. We also have an extruder, a slab roller, a glaze mixing area, a library, glaze recipes and ware shelves. As a collective, we share not only the equipment, but the responsibility to care for them.
The Potters Guild provides fellowship for clay enthusiasts. The Guild hosts two sales per year; our Holiday Show in December and Mother’s Day Sale in May. We offer a Watch and Learn Workshop series a few times per year, where one Guild member teaches a skill to other members. Workshops include: Handle Pulling Tips, Printing on Clay, Wheel Maintenance and Photographing your Ceramic Work.
The Guild and members are very active in both the local art community and the greater Centre region community throughout the year. In the summer of 2018, we organized a Mud Magic weekend for the Bellefonte Art Museum. We co-curated the Art Alliance Show Form and Fire-Ceramics by Central Pennsylvania Artists at the Art Alliance Downtown Gallery fall of 2019.
Many of our members actively showcase their work at the Art Alliance Gallery Shop in Lemont. Members have the opportunity to show work at both the Art Alliance Downtown Gallery in State College as well as in the Bellefonte Art Museum. Many participate in both the Central PA Festival of the Arts and People’s Choice Festival as well as other seasonal festivals throughout the year.
As the studio is run by a collective, members all pitch in with ordering supplies, cleaning, sharing information, building kilns and maintaining our studio. 3-4 annual meetings allow us to regularly discuss issues, plan for special events and share our thoughts.
